Dear all - i have now installed systemimager-i386boot-standard-3.4.1 rpm

this is looking better - as now si_mkautoinstalldiskette gets much further - however it still falls over at the end while trying to write out the syslinux.cfg  file to diskette.  Could this be down to the size of my kernel ? maybe it is too large ??  Any ideas much appreciated folks.

here's is what happens now i have the additional boot rpm installed (thanks Alexandre):

#si_mkautoinstalldiskette

This program assumes that you have a 1.44MB floppy drive and that
it is /dev/fd0. You can use the --floppy command line option to
change this value.
If you do use --floppy, this command will run non-interactively!!!
Use the --help option to see all options.
Insert your floppy diskette now. This will overwrite all
