I had and have the PDF mode set as the default, with this statement in my
.emacs, and do not change it while typesetting from emacs. This puzzles me
even more, because clearly, when typesetting with the name I gave to the
above script in AUCTex, C-c C-v looks for the dvi. May be I have something
wrong in the AUCTeX, if you can say something about it:

How: Value Menu TeX-run-TeX
Create a process for NAME using COMMAND to format FILE with
TeX.
