Some years ago, it was a struggle getting the same pay for a lecturer with nominal 7 year training (3 yr Bach + Hons + 3 yr PhD) as a beginning teacher got with only 4 (3 yr Bach + Dip). And academics don't get more pay for more training, except (finally) a minimum for a PhD.
