To smartBridges: When a firware update is completed, is there a check done to
verify the writen data? If not, how hard would it be to add, or create a stand
alone app to verify flash data on the units?

I don't think it is... I didn't mean to say I thought it was a firmware problem,
but that it was the storage in use in the device. The firmware seems to work
great on the good units. It seems like sometimes on a bad unit you can flash a
device several times, and use simple deploy on it several times and eventually,
it may "take" properly and start working. Kind of like a bad floppy disk that
you can't write to.
I had one once where the ethernet light would not come on. I unplugged it,
plugged it back in, same deal... did it about 6 times, and then it finally came
on. I can say one thing for certain... I was lead to believe that a lot of the
problems were "user error", but I have played with the units enough to know that
some are good and some are just plain flakey and don't do what they should, and
if I get a bad unit, I now know it's not because I misconfigured it.
I'm also a fan of smartbridges, I think it's a fantastic product - better than
any other for my use. At least when they work, anyway.
Thanks,
Roger
