Well - to a certain extend since the battery applet does not cooperate
with it.

Uh, OK. Never tried any newer kernel on my GTA01s. And beware - the
before mentioned console patch was also for 2.6.24 not 2.6.29 (though it
should almost apply or be simple to make it apply).
