I also use debian/e17/zhone, and also see this same behavior.
I think it may depend on the kernel you use, and I have the impression
that it might be linked to whether or not I've used the wifi since the
last reboot.
Often when I can't suspend, I can't reboot either: when I try to run
"reboot" from an xterm, it just sits there, and if I try "reboot -f" it
just wait a little while and then returns with a pleasant "segmentation
fault".
