Enough already! That’s how I’ve been feeling with the Mac version of Safari. I
blame it for the slowdowns, the freezes and the need to reboot my iMac more
often than I think should be necessary.

As a result I’ve rather reluctantly switched to Google’s Chrome browser and my
all the above have disappeared. I’m not really that keen on Chrome, largely to
do with its UI - the tabs, a lack of a comparable function to Safari Reader (I
use Read Now but it seems rather clumsy) and searching within a web page. And
I’m not all that keen on the way it displays fonts.

It does, however, make my system more consistently reliable and at the moment
when I don’t want to invest in new Mac hardware until it is completely clear
where Apple is headed with OS X, and thus Safari, I accept the compromises that
Chrome offers.

For me having to use a Google ‘flagship’ bit of software seems like opening the
doors to the enemy. I’ve been around the alternatives and just wish Apple would
up its game with Safari - but not much sign of that in the immediate future.
Could Mountain Lion change this? Possibly, but then will my Macs be allowed to
run Mountain Lion? A sort of Hamlet question!

Regards,

Tony
