It is entirely possible that the energy generated (EMI/RFI - from DC up into 
the GHz) by such an event could adversly affect RX's OR the TX's. 

The more likely reason the RX's have been compromised has more to do with 
circuitry that is already powered up. The additional energy may exceed the 
performance specifications of passive/active components.

It is not the radio energy (RFI), as much as the electromagnetic energy 
(EMI)...
