Now, Mexico is a place I'd really like to visit. They've come up with historical facts that Mexico was visited by the Europeans (mostly Portugese, Spanish, and Vikings) during the late 13th century and the early 14th century. It wasn't until Queen Isabella of Spain realized that Columbus (real name Colonna) had duped her so that the King of Portugal could open the East Indies and India to the spice trade that the Iberian exploration of the Americas started.
She really had no choice, but to send her (explorers???) to the Americas to see what was there. Followed, of course, by the enslavement of the native population, and the brutality that followed when the Inquistion tried to convert them to Catholicism.
