Yup, they made it all the way to the eastern central part of the U.S., western New York State if memory serves. There was an article in the Readers Digest about a year or so ago; apparently they found an archeological site that had artifacts that were Viking (Norse) in origin. They also found runes carved in rock, or on some of the rocks.
Interesting thing is, there are remnants of Viking visits all up and down the Eastern Seaboard of North America. But they wouldn't tell anybody about it, Eric the Red called Greenland 'Greenland' because it's mostly covered in ice. And he called Iceland 'Iceland' because it's climate isn't too bad, it's green, and volcanic in origin. Eric was smart that way, wonder if George 'Dubbya' Bush is related to him. It's amazing what stretching the truth can do. Colonna is supposed to be the Italian version of Colon; I really can't say because all the Italian language I know is the Latin I learned in high school, and a few words that a female friend taught me when I was much younger. And also unmarried. That can't be right. To my knowledge the Vikings never made it past Newfoundland. > It wasn't until Queen Isabella of Spain realized that Columbus > (real name Colonna) I thought his real name was Colón. That's what one calls him in Spanish. Cristóbal Colón.
