I don't think that would seriously affect the simm.

I believe you can use the prom to set the output resolution, and as
long as you have a monitor to support it you could set it to 1280x1024
(don't remember the command offhand) which should only work if you
have 2M. I have the 1MB VSIMM at home and I can try it out.
