Since the wording is in thee about roof manifolds, yard hyrants, etc., I've
always been under the impression that so long as your arrangement works- it
works. There's no criteria added for the hydrant or roof manifold
arrangements, and it is for ITM that we have the header, not suppression or
control.

Therefore, if the arrangement is workable, then it should be accepted. It's
convenient to not hammer the UG when doing a flow flow pump test, so we put
the header ahead of the pump discharge control valve- you can shut the
discharge valve, and isolate the pump from the UG - or a bank of risers.
Heck, you might want to play with or defeat PLD settings or something,
without exposing other systems to the higher pressure.

If there are yard hydrants, you could omit the header- offer that as an
option to the engineer? Then it won't be connected to anything.

While I smiled at the "where'd he go to school" logic, it might be better to
ask him why he doesn't like your arrangement, and cite specific code
sections supporting what he would prefer.

Ron, did it get below 92*F at night yet?

Subject: RE: pump test header location

It's more common to take the test header off the end of bulk main or combine
it with the FDC line if the header is remote from the pump room.

Subject: pump test header location

The diagrams in NFPA 20 show the connection for the test header prior to the
valve on the discharge side of the pump. However, the diagrams are located
in the appendix and I can't seem to find any text reference to it within the
standard. Coul; someone enlighten me if the is any and if so, where? I've
called for this and am being challenged by an engineer.
Thanks
