If it's easy put it on the EP supply. If not and your worried, install the
compressor and tank with a larger tank and air maint. device, that will last
24 Hours or more.
I wouldn't suggest a riser mount air comp. for this application.

Subject: RE: Air Compressor Power Supply

I have never had an AHJ or Underwriter require an air compressor to be on
emergency power. Rationale was that the systems are not supposed be leaking
to the extent that they should need it for an anticipated short period of
power loss. If they are then the systems need to be tested and the leakage
fixed.

The 30 minutes was the time once the system is reset and as far as being
available at all times I was told that was referring to the compressor being
hard wired into a live circuit, not on a switched circuit that could be
turned off.

Subject: Air Compressor Power Supply

A building (nursing home) with an emergency generator has a dry system. Is
the air compressor required to be connected to the emergency generator?

NFPA-13 (2007) 7.2.6.2.1,2 says that the air supply shall be from a source
available at all times and shall be capable of restoring normal air pressure
in the system within 30 minutes.

Does this imply that yes it would be required to be connected to the em.
power when available or does it just need to be an unswitched circuit?

It seems as though it would be advisable for the compressor to be on the
generator circuit but I want to know if it would be required.

Thank you for any input and/or references.
