An air compressor is not required by NFPA 13 to be on an emergency or stand-by power. An air compressor is not required to be listed. An air compressor is not even required.
I would state normal building power is fine with a disconnect to allow servicing of the air compressor is all that is required. Hope this helps, John John August Denhardt, P.E. Is the air compressor required to be connected to the emergency generator? NFPA-13 (2007) 7.2.6.2.1,2 says that the air supply shall be from a source available at all times and shall be capable of restoring normal air pressure in the system within 30 minutes. Does this imply that yes it would be required to be connected to the em. power when available or does it just need to be an unswitched circuit? It seems as though it would be advisable for the compressor to be on the generator circuit but I want to know if it would be required. Thank you for any input and/or references. Reed A.
