There's no doubt a wet system is best protection. ANY delay while you're in the room of origin is going to feel like forever if you're waiting for staff to evacuate your butt from your bed. Flashover comes to quick for the delayed dry system response to spare your life. This is pretty elementary. I do not equate dry systems with life safety at all.
The birdcage method is how we design hotel/apt jobs with an unheated attic, whether there is a dry system (per #13 or to avoid draftstopping) but there is no reason the top floor sectional valve can't be located a floor down alongside the lower floor SCV, and a separate piping system piped around to pop up in walls with HSWs. We stopped running wet pipe in attics years ago after $5k costs of defense were inflicted on an $18,000 job when the GC insulated UNDER our pipe and it froze and flooded the first cold night- right in the owner's bedroom. Innocent of wrongdoing, but delayed legal response from GC caused us to proceed with defense. AF would be 2nd choice, allows CPVC. glc _______________________________________________ Sprinklerforum mailing list http://lists.firesprinkler.org/mailman/listinfo/sprinklerforum For Technical Assistance, send an email to: [email protected] To Unsubscribe, send an email to:[email protected] (Put the word unsubscribe in the subject field)
