Your concern is well placed but the alternative is a performance based design. It's only a Class I so I would just go with the prescriptive area density for the commodity and height. It is solid pile and what concerns me is I could not find any limit on clearance from top of storage. ________________________________ From: "Fletcher, Ron" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Friday, April 10, 2009 12:57:20 PM Subject: RE: Storage Sprinkler He said it was solid pile. Is there a limit on clearance from top of storage for area density in 07? Ron Fletcher Aero Automatic Sprinkler 21605 N. We did a lot of work to explicitly address excessive clearance for spray sprinklers in storage under section 12.1.3.4 currently titled Ceiling Heights (changed that too). The current criteria won't fly because it is limited to solid pile (as shown by the approach coming from the old NFPA 231) and Class I-IV in racks less than 25 ft (though that became clear only at the ROC). Section 12.1 kills using it for all storage. The option to put a barrier over the rack with sprinkler beneath them (tough option) was deleted.
