Well unfortunately, the Fire Dept. does not do flow tests or keep records here,
it is the utility dept.

Thanks for feedback.

You are the best to determine this. You've been in Seattle for years
(decade?). When I did time in St. Paul I knew the system. I did the flow
tests and kept the records. We were a large city with minimal growth
affecting the water system and an old mature system. Nothing really changed
over the ten years I was there. In theory we could have gone 10 years.
Generally I went with 3 years, longer if I knew the area, it was well
gridded like most of the city and I had done the original test. Probably
would have capped at 5 years just because.

Now in the booming 'burbs a week is too long sometimes. Especially when one
doesn't know the normal seasonal fluctuations because all users aren't there
yet. Within Seattle might have old systems where you go years might have
some new areas you go short until you learn the particulars of the system.

Subject: Hydrant Flow Test time frame for validity

We are reviewing our policy as to the length of time for use of hydrant flow
test data.

We have heard ranges from as short as 6 months to 18 months.

If the forum members would be willing to share thoughts as to how old of a
test is accepted by the AHJ's you deal with it can help guide our revised
policy.

Thanks in advance,

Rich Richardson
Seattle Fire Department
