Has anybody on this forum designed systems for wine barrel storage? I'm guessing the Californians have. Barrels are in horizontal position, stored on a cradle, cradle follows curvature of barrel, cradle / barrel is stacked 6 high total height of 18'. There is a 6" clearance between stacks i.e top of barrel to bottom of barrel, small transverse and longitudinal space. My gut re-action would be considering this palletized storage versus rack. When the barrel is picked up so is its corresponding cradle - that's where I come up with palletize. Alcohol less than 20% in wood barrels is a class II. Any input? Jim Johnston, P.E.
