What I envision is a lot of wood and a lot of air spaces surrounding the wood barrels and cradles. It seems much more than OH2 storage hazard. Not as bad as pallet storage but plenty of surfaces to burn when 18ft high. Not as bad as whiskey barrel warehouse. No answers just more to think about.

I'm guessing the Californians have. Barrels are in horizontal position, stored on a cradle, cradle follows curvature of barrel, cradle / barrel is stacked 6 high total height of 18'. There is a 6" clearance between stacks i.e top of barrel to bottom of barrel, small transverse and longitudinal space. My gut re-action would be considering this palletized storage versus rack. When the barrel is picked up so is its corresponding cradle - that's where I come up with palletize. Alcohol less than 20% in wood barrels is a class II. Any input? Jim Johnston, P.E.
