This is a VERY interesting topic for discussion.

Hanger vs Structure

The following is pure speculation and open for corrections.
The listing probably does not touch on minimum structural specifications - at
least directly.  The catch-all "when installed in accordance with manufacturer
instructions" ties the listing to the structure indirectly.  The manufacturer
sees the customer installer needing some direction on minimum gauge thickness,
does some testing, and provides that guidance in the data sheet.
End of speculation.

Even if the above speculation is accurate, you still have to get it blessed by
the SEOR.  It's his baby and his 50lb load limit.  Generally speaking, SEs,
MEs, and CEs don't do listings.  You may need to go to the SEOR with Tolco test
data and hat in hand.

I would pull the UL listing for the 78 and read it, if it says what the
catalog says your AOK. Any hanger or attachment listed for fire sprinkler
systems is assumed to meet all of the NFPA requirements for load. That is
why the minimum desk thickness is 18ga.
