My assumption is that the special application sprinklers you're talking about
are the Tyco attic series sprinklers. Their 28 or so page MDS pretty much
covers every situation, along with the literature from Blazemaster, Spears,
Victaulic, (insert preferred CPVC supplier here) regarding listed piping
installations for combustible spaces.

But, basically, yes - or at least that's my take on it. You're pretty much
looking at the combination of the listing of the two installation concepts of
the CPVC literature and the Tyco Attic head series. If what you have is still
in question, odds are you'd be better off contacting the manufacturer you're
using and explain the situation and get their blessing in writing.

Subject: attics

Plastic supplying upper floor sprinklers may be run in attics. There is an
attic sprinkler system also. If we supply the attic sprinklers from the wet
system covering the third floor, it appears we must use special application
sprinklers and these will protect the plastic pipe in the attic. However we
have a freezing possibility in the attic and will have to run a dry system.
Assuming the plastic is insulated with lay in insulation, can we use
standard sprinklers in the attic sprinkler system or will we have to use the
special application sprinklers anyway. The issue is of course cost! Thanks
in advance.
