Preaction and dry pipe systems are still considered a closed system similar to
a wet system. Deluge on the other hand is a system open to the elements and
does require galv. pipe and fittings per NFPA 15.

Thanks, John. Wasn't there somewhere in NFPA 13 that states preaction systems
shall utilize galv piping?

It is not required to be galvanized per NFPA 13.

Subject: Exterior dry system piping under canopy

I have a dry system (non-FM in TN) under an exterior canopy. Is there somewhere
it states the pipe and fittings are to be corrosion resistant (ex.
Galv.)? I thought somewhere it stated for preact it had to be regardless, but I
can't find that either. Maybe I'm pulling an old spec from a project out of my
brain as the last two I've done have required galv. piping per the spec book.
