A relatively simple solution that is less costly than a connected
reserve bottle of N2 is to have an ASME pressure vessel with air or
nitrogen as a smaller capacity connected reserve; when the low air
switch goes off because the N2 tank is empty, you close the valve and
install the protective cap atop the N2 bottle and get it refilled; open
the valve from the little tank of air or nitrogen and you've got the
interim supply until the gas supplier shows up with the new tank, or the
maintenance guy gets tired of hearing the bottle roll around in the back
of his pickup and gets it refilled and re-installed.

And chris- isn't Air comprised of 72% N2, 22% O2, and the balance a mix
of rare gases, smog, and the stench of NAHB propaganda?

>From Wiki: Dry air contains roughly (by volume) 78% nitrogen, 21%
>oxygen,
0.93% argon, 0.038% carbon dioxide, and small amounts of other gases.
Air also contains a variable amount of water vapor, on average around
1%.

Ok, Chris was closer and I owe him a beer next time I go ice fishing.
Fitter training session going on today in Minneapolis, in case you
didn't know what the non-signatory guys were up to today. Small
industry, eh?

Chris,

I've used and specified nitrogen without problems especially as a backup
for dry and special hazard systems. Agree with Ron that the biggest
problem is making sure the cylinders are replaced.
John D. provided some information on nitrogen generation systems (that
are spendy), but yet another option.

I was under the impression we talked about nitrogen in dry systems was a
challenge because it leaked where plain air would not. I searched the
last few years of the forum and couldn't find any such discussion. But
air is 80% nitrogen so maybe not a significant difference? How many of
you have tried nitrogen and did you or do you still have leaking
problems?
