Chris,

Penetrations of the hood are probably the least of your problems if
there is a fryer (but Dave covered that part already). MN allows the
use of EA-1's if you can find them. I don't believe they are listed for
that use anymore and in the temperature range you need they need to be
replaced frequently (annually?). Where have they been stored for years
and will that be a problem?

More importantly though, they had a very limited listing for height
above a fryer and it was very difficult to install them within their
listing anyway..

Not a good idea IMHO.

Subject: Kitchen Hoods

Anyone still putting in wet fire sprinklers as opposed to wet chem
systems
under kitchen hoods? And if so would it make a difference if there was
a
deep fryer or not?

Got an engineer that thought sprinklers would be cheaper to use than wet
chem. on a very small hood. Well after finding a main and a control
valve
and flow switch and ITV I doubt it. No fryer, although I'm told we can
still get EA-1 heads that are still listed, they are listed in my Tyco
book.
We haven't done one in at least 10 or 15 years. My concerns are sealing
the
penetrations especially in the duct (I can pipe around the hood w/o
penetrating I guess). I can get stainless pipe no problem.

Just curious.
