At one time, we serviced several restaurants with sprinkler protection in the Type I exhaust systems. Common problems were duct penetrations that were not liquid/grease tight, no way to change the head, no fuel shut offs, no drains to test the fuel shut offs, and inadequate cleaning of the heads. I have seen grease balls around sprinkler heads, chemical nozzles and fusible links.
We have upgraded several restraints, the last about 3 years ago. The deviancies listed in this thread are the result of installers, inspectors, and service techs that did not know or care about the quality of their work. I also still have a couple of the EA-1 heads. I have not installed any for at least 20 years, but you never know. I recall the cost was about $100.00 each. I don't want to be known as a low-baller, so will only beat Ron's price by $5.00 -------------------------------------------------- From: "David de Vries" <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, May 03, 2010 4:59 PM To: <[email protected]> Subject: RE: Kitchen Hoods > I will try and find the picture I have of the last installation I saw > protected by sprinklers.
