Understood but if they're telling you they want a white unicorn, ask them where you can get one. The engineer should have some knowledge of who manufactures or engineers such a system if he's specifying it, right? Or is it too presumptuous to assume he's actually done any research before writing the spec?

It's a Dental Clinic. Like Todd said - Our tax dollars at work for us!! What a waste. But I'm still not bold enough to tell the Corp of Engineers they are a bunch of idiots - as much as I would like to. This is obviously an engineer who is lost in space. There is no way to protect pipng from a blast unless someone is providing explosion resistant structure between the blast hazard and the pipe. In no case is there any way to protect piping from a blast when it's directly exposed. It's just stupid to even ask for such a thing. The chracteristics of the explosion, direction, mass displacement, building damage, etc., etc. can not be accounted for by "Bracing". Ask this genius what he has in mind, it will probably not be anything since he figures you're the contractor and should be all knowing in this matter. Geez.................... We are currently doing a project where seismic bracing has been specified for 'blast protection' (or something like that). The project is not in a zone that would otherwise require seismic protection. So here is my question. Are restraining straps required to be installed on the beam clamps? Now before you answer, consider this - NFPA 13 2007 - 9.3.7.1 - C-type clamps ... used to attach hangers to the building structure IN AREAS SUBJECT TO EARTHQUAKES shall be equipped with a retraining strap. Ok, now what is your opinion?
