Actually I think this could make a difference even before (or if) adoption by NFPA. Remember that "AHJ" includes insurance underwriters like FM, and often a "Local" AHJ (Fire Marshal) will defer to FM, due to their vast experience. This could especially be the case if the TC has recommended approval of these larger areas.
Making it into the Standards and code, isn't the only way we apply design information. For years if NFPA didn't cover some situation but FM did, no-one worried about whether it was "Code" or "Adopted". We simply used the best available information. I wouldn't be surprised to see these larger design areas before 2013. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, February 23, 2011 8:36 AM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: System Area Size While it's nice that FM has made these concessions, what difference does it really make? Until the adopted Codes and Standards accept or make any changes, we got what we got to work with. Craig L.
