NFPA 25 2011 13.4.4.2 is the section you want, the Annual trip test with the valve partially open and a full flow trip test every 3 years. 5.3.3.5 only applies to the waterflow alarm testing (EG the pressure switch which is quarterly). Section 5.3.3.5 says that testing dry system waterflow alarms SHALL be done using the bypass connection (not the remote trip test connection).
