I have run into this with 13D systems before that are installed without a 
backflow. In that situation, we have used brass fittings and nipples. I believe 
that cast iron and unlined ductile are AWWA approved.

A 6x4 cast iron flanged reducer takes out 9". 
A 6 x 4 Vic # 50 takes out 4". 
A 6" Vic #41 (which I have never used) with a 6 x 4 #750 takes out about 6". 

Anything outside of that would probably have to be fabricated. How about a 
piece of 6" ductile with a 6" Uniflange on one end and a groove in the other 
and use a 6x4 #750?
