8.6.1.1.3.1 says that where there is more than one source of water supply there shall be a check valve installed on each connection. But don't forget that 8.16.1.1.3.5 also says you're to have control valves on both sides of that check valve, but there are exceptions which may or may not affect the arrangement. As far as putting a check valve on each individual system, I don't think it's a requirement and with small diameter "systems" of 2-3 sprinklers each, it's arguably a bad idea because such small volume piping networks will be unusually sensitive to pressure packing from surges and thermal expansion. Are the risers furnished with relief valves?

I have a situation where there's several containerized housing side by side. Each container has it independent lead in and riser. None of the risers have check valves, only a valve, flow switch and test/drain valve. I'm doing an inspection and I'm not sure IF check valves are necessary. I can't find anything in the code explicitly stating it needs one. Since it's feed from one source, I'm checking for a main check valve/ back flow now, and since it's more of a horizontal multi-story building lol only 2 or 3 heads per floor. I don't think it's required. And besides just acting as a valve to prevent water leaving the system piping, I can't remember any other reason. Sent from my iPhone Aaron M.
