Troy,

After a quick read of NFPA 14 [2013], 7.3.2(5), I believe your AHJ is correct, particularly if there is no access to the roof from the stair. Grated, that section applies to Class I, however Class III requires that you meet the locations for I and II.

For reference, the paragraph I'm taking guidance from reads:

7.3.2* Class I Systems. Class I systems shall be provided with 2 1⁄2
in. (65 mm) hose connections in the following locations:
   [snip]
(5)*At the highest landing of stairways with stairway access to a
roof, or on roofs with a slope of less than 4 in 12 where stairways
   do not access the roof

That looks to me as though the AHJ had it right. If the stair doesn't access the roof, and the roof is flat, then a hose connection is required.

hope that helps,

QUESTION: AHJ IS TELLING ME I NEED A HOSE CONNECTION ON THE ROOF.

I HAVE A 5 STORY HOTEL. NO STAIR ACCESS TO ROOF, ONLY A HATCH. FLAT ROOF.
THE SYSTEM IS A WET SYSTEM.

I MOVED THE HOSE CONNECTION FROM THE INTERMEDIATE LANDING BETWEEN THE 4TH
AND 5TH TO THE FINSHED 5TH FLOOR LANDING.SINCE IT STATES TO HAVE THE TOP
MOST CONNECTION AT THE HIGHEST LANDING.

AM I MISSING SOMETHING?

ANY GUIDANCE WOULD BE HELPFUL.

THANKS

TROY S.
