It all depends on how the project was coordinated and managed. If your designer
worked off of HVAC shop drawings, and had your own shop drawings reviewed and
approved by the Architect, then the duct is in the wrong spot, you should have
no problem getting a change order.

If you cut pipe without shop drawings from the other trades or without your
designer verifying actual field conditions, it's probably on you.

This is where project management is so crucial to the success of a job. It's
also where many contractors try to cut corners and end up getting burned.

Subject: Change Orders

I am just curious how everyone else in the fire sprinkler industry deals with
change orders. For example, everything for a project is prefabricated besides
the return bends. Say you have an issue with the HVAC and your main has to be
moved how do you go about that? Do you request for a change order? Even if in
your quote you have a clause stating after material has been ordered anything
extra for moving pipe is an extra to the contract amount. Does this fall under
coordination? Thank you very much for any replies in advance.
