So it's an offset stair, correct? In other words, it doesn't just go from an
upper floor down 3 levels to a lobby, it stays in an exit passageway and you go
horizontally on the transfer floor to a different stairwell for the rest of the
trip down to exit discharge, is that right?

The building loses half of the floor on the upper levels, so it’s a second
stair for the top levels. And the ahj is calling it a required exit

Why is there a “partial stairwell”? Is it classified as required exit stair
or a convenience stair?

Subject: Secondary Standpipe on Upper Levels

I have a 12 story project with a partial stairwell on the top 3 floors. The AHJ
is requiring a standpipe at this partial stairwell. My question is to I need to
run another vertical feed from the pump on the first floor, or can I do a
horizontal feed off the standpipe in the opposite stairwell on the upper level?
