I’m trying to figure out if I need another isolation valve or if I can save about 50’-60’ of piping.
The sprinkler system if feed from a combination standpipe in the stair well that runs all 12 floors. When you enter an egress stairwell you are supposed to be entering a structure that basically guarantees a safe path to street level safety out of the next doorway. The implications for this extends into how the enclosure for this path is isolated from the building structure itself and all MEP systems. That stairwell egress path typically commands the highest enclosure protection of anything else in the building. How that super protected egress path is traversing half the building on the 10th floor of a 12 story high-rise is a head scratcher in many ways. In the very least that passage is functionally part of the lower stairwells. If it actually connects to both the lower stairwells, providing an exiting choice at the 10th floor, then you have the question as to whether or not one or both of the lower standpipes should supply that upper stairwell standpipe. It sounds like it is not the same situation as having one of the stairwells being a straight shot all the way up to the 12th floor. By the way, what supplies the floor level sprinkler systems? Then your be roughly in the middle of the floor and would travel to either end of the building to the full set of stairs down to the ground floor. In other words, it doesn't just go from an upper floor down 3 levels to a lobby, it stays in an exit passageway and you go horizontally on the transfer floor to a different stairwell for the rest of the trip down to exit discharge, is that right? The AHJ is requiring a standpipe at this partial stairwell. My question is to I need to run another vertical feed from the pump on the first floor, or can I do a horizontal feed off the standpipe in the opposite stairwell on the upper level?
