There are many considerations involved when dealing with molten metals and metals handling that aren't addressed in NFPA 13.
Whether it's an FPE or other qualified individual, you need someone who is capable and understanding of industrial process hazards. That 's way outside the average NICET III or IV area of expertise. An example of hazards are hydraulic oils and thermal transfer fluids which are often part of the extruding process equipment. Flash points and operating pressures are influential when determining sprinkler criteria. I'm not saying you have these hazards but you might and an OH design criteria ain't gonna cut it. If there areas with open crucibles of molten metal, you won't want any sprinklers near that. So, you need to inform whoever hired you or your company that there is more to this than just "providing sprinklers per NFPA 13".
