Let’s also be realistic about this, if something happens, you will be named
in the lawsuit, doesn’t matter if you did your job correctly or not. After
you are named in the suit you need to be able to prove that you did your
job properly and show that you are not liable.
There is no way of doing this where the insurance company is not going to
name you in a suit, shotgun approach, pull the trigger and see who ends up
in the line of fire and who can get out of the way.
Need to make sure you are covering what is required in NFPA 25 and be very
careful about how and/or if you provide any other information. Anything you
put in writing will be used against you!
If you feel something needs to be mentioned, which some things I think we
should make note of make sure you write up as a note that is outside the
scope of your inspection and write almost as a question
 - At time of inspection, we noticed this _______, it may be prudent to
have this area reviewed by an engineer.
Do not give an opinion on the matter nor a recommendation on how to fix the
issue, unless they provide correspondence requesting your expertise on the
matter, even then be careful.
The reality is that anything to do with sprinklers is just as much about
mitigating liability as much as it is about saving lives, if someone can
find you at fault they will.
