The suction side is coming from an aboveground suction tank which is on the
same slab as the pump house. There shouldn’t be any movement there to deal
with.

seismic cat D area

Craig, If you're looking to provide that much flexibility, my thought is that
the solution Mike provided would certainly suffice. I admit to never having run

wouldn't

Craig,

If you're looking to provide that much flexibility, my thought is that the
solution Mike provided would certainly suffice.

I admit to never having run across this requirement before, however the
question popped into my head - wouldn't the same requirement apply to the
suction side of the pump as well? It would seem applicable that the same
motion would need to be accounted for on the suction side of the pump as well
as the discharge side.

my thoughts only,

I have a packaged fire pumphouse, discharge exists horizontally through the

The seismic design category SDC) is “D”.

I am being told by the project ME that we should have a flexible connection on
the discharge side outside the bldg. to accommodate the potential of 8-inches
of movement between the pumphouse and underground piping system.

I’ve looked around to try and find such an assembly for 8” pipe suitable for an
outdoor installation and so far haven’t found such a device.

So, my question for those out there in seismically active areas, is this
standard practice and who makes such an assembly?
