The suction side is coming from an aboveground suction tank which is on the same slab as the pump house. There shouldn’t be any movement there to deal with.

I admit to never having run across this requirement before, however the question popped into my head - wouldn't the same requirement apply to the suction side of the pump as well? It would seem applicable that the same motion would need to be accounted for on the suction side of the pump as well as the discharge side. my thoughts only, Ken Wagoner, SET Parsley Consulting 3002 Younger Drive Harrisonville, Missouri 64701-3909 Phone: (760) 745-6181 Visit the website<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/linkprotect.cudasvc.com/url?a=http*3a*2f*2fwww.parsleyconsulting.com*2f&c=E,1,Y5zKJKPEh1mBEBqSR-VE9cUKl5y-eyP8BpvmE_5j9ZqW2eJbNphYzrCMBZ-2YuX6d-RRkHI4gQ1FV-cvOeCfRC58uZS9NiToZv2mx7909oCqLvCW_n5hDHeK&typo=1__;JSUlJQ!!B5cixuoO7ltTeg!GVh_9N5VeUHxlgaF5com-QskRr_PcVcgngXIjbdc42Q4A-TYIcpdPC__zbypHnwkzElc-MRNQM6Ffh81mLyovw$> On 2/10/2026 9:28 AM, Prahl, Craig wrote: I have a packaged fire pumphouse, discharge exists horizontally through the wall and then turns down to connect to the underground outside of the bldg. The seismic design category SDC) is “D”. I am being told by the project ME that we should have a flexible connection on the discharge side outside the bldg. to accommodate the potential of 8-inches of movement between the pumphouse and underground piping system. I’ve looked around to try and find such an assembly for 8” pipe suitable for an outdoor installation and so far haven’t found such a device. So, my question for those out there in seismically active areas, is this standard practice and who makes such an assembly?
