You can drill down into the account which will show you all the
transactions for the account. You can also use the GIFI account to group
accounts into ledgers if you use GIFI codes.  You can do the same through
the trial balance.  If you also enter dates, the trasnactions will be
limited to the same date range when you drill down.

The General Ledger report is a catch-all reporting facility. I realize it
is hard to see all the possibilities at first. i.e check the Income radio
button and include the Account field and your report will be limited to
income accounts. Then you click on the income account and you got a Sales
Journal. You are right, though, there is no beginning and ending balance
and a running balance. These are things which will come later.
