Thanks for this link. A shabby code review lacking detail or dialogue with the authors, is still better than no code review at all. We should thank the reviewers at Perlmonks.org. What would a code audit of Quickbooks show? When one runs QB on a PC incidentally connected to the public internet, QB communicates with Intuit enough to assess the need for updates and then download them to the user's hard drive. Only after that point does the program query the user whether or not to install the downloaded upgrade. Does Intuit run spyware? If so, how would we ever find out? We can't answer any of these questions with certainty, because Intuit keeps its source code a secret from its own customers. Now that M$ has bought Great Plains and Navision, two mid-sized accounting platforms, can their customers expect security to improve? Again, the answer is, we cannot know, because M$ will continue to keep the code a secret from its own customers. Dieter, thanks for releasing sql-ledger under the GPL. We can keep using and sharing code, as well as our user experiences. Sql-ledger will just keep getting better.
