...I think the issue *may* have something to do with my ISP's traffic-shaping policy. I seem to be able to connect without too many problems from midnight-4pm, but when I try from 4pm-midnight I experience very frequent timeouts / dropout / can't connect issues. Now, my ISP (PlusNet in the UK) explicitly state that they apply shaping to p2p traffic during peak times (4pm-midnight, coincidentally) so I was wondering if SN traffic was being wrongly identified as p2p and set to a v. low priority. Does anyone know what ports / protocols SN uses? Is it just http or does it use port 3483 (SlimProto) also?
