Thanks for the link, Funkstar! My apologies for my lack of clarity, but here's my dream, and I believe it's do-able. Somehow.
Radish: I don't want to add a wireless WiFi router to my system, if I can avoid it...for a variety of reasons. (Although I'll do it, if I have no other options.) I want the advanced capabilities provided by SB (good quality sound, control of my computer's MP3 player from another room, WiFi technology) while listening to the music in my den. A solution that provides this entire capability without a wireless router involved is the Logitech Wireless DJ Music System. It beams the sound out from your PC as part of the solution and allows you to browse the playlist, repeat or skip tracks, etc. I'm providing a link below; I can get this for under a $100. But I believe it's Bluetooth-based, and I read several reviews that stated there were problems with dropouts when people walked across the "beam", frequent stutters, etc. http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-media-receivers/logitech-wireless-dj-music/4505-6739_7-32004279.html It also looks like Logitech is abandoning this technology to concentrate on Squeezebox now that it's acquired SlimDevices and their excellent solutions, so I'm hesitant to get the Wireless Dj, when it may be already an orphan. However, as you all have pointed out, Squeezebox ASSUMES I've already got a wireless router. And my five computers (sometimes six, if I bring work home) in my house all currently run wired to the router. I'd hate to mess with that working solution, and I don't like being a target for wardrivers. (I'm a computer security dude by day, music aficionado by night.) Soooo...does someone (hopefully SlimDevices/Logitech) still supply the piece of the system that broadcasts that will work with Squeezebox? -- TRCIII ------------------------------------------------------------------------ TRCIII's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14983 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42132 _______________________________________________ squeezenetwork mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/squeezenetwork
