I'll relate an interesting story on that. I work in the IS support area for a mid-sized company with a couple of hundred PCs installed. Our PC guys rarely if ever follow static precautions. They claim they don't need to use grounding straps because 'they know what they are doing.' One day when day when they were upgrading a PC I was in the area and the guy working on the computer managed to zap the motherboard with a static discharge I could hear. They never did get that computer working again, and blamed it on the PC manufacturer's 'non standard' motherboard.
