I forwarded him your previous mail - he replies: > Actually, I have addressed ALL the points in that email, several times over > the course of my chronology. > Multiple cables, multiple cases, boards, cpu, ram, drivers, etc etc. > > They all didn't happen in the same computer, these were spaced out over > several systems, with mix of old and new parts. > Our PC guys rarely if ever follow static precautions. They claim > they don't need to use grounding straps because 'they know what they > are doing.' I did have a wrist strap - well, still do - just that it broke :) I never bothered to replace it, I just earth myself off the case before handling any sensitive parts. What does worry me is when I see people grabbing things like SIMMs and PCI cards with their bare hands - touching all the metal parts - without taking any precautions at all - it seems a wonder to me that they still work at all after that. Might even be why my PC SCSI card *doesn't* work... > One day when day when they were upgrading a PC I was in the area and the guy > working on the computer managed to zap the motherboard with a static discharge > I could hear. They never did get that computer working again, and blamed it > on the PC manufacturer's 'non standard' motherboard. Hah. But after reading the likes of <http://www.rinkworks.com/stupid/> it becomes hard to be surprised by either stupidity (of either users or tech staff) or the lengths people go to to cover their backsides or hide their stupidity. And then you can't beat the Microsoft Crash Gallery <http://www.scorpioncity.com/mscrash.shtml> for a hilarious collection of software bugs in mostly Microsoft products (I've collected a lot of Mac ones, too, like Rumpus FTP drawing half of the pieces of a dialog box into a different window ;) Ah, computing is fun sometimes :D -- StarMax is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and... / Buy books, CDs, videos, and more from Amazon.com \ / <http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect-home/lowendmac> \ Support Low End Mac <http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html> StarMax list info: <http://lowendmac.com/lists/starmax.html> --> AOL users, remove "mailto:" Send list messages to: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To unsubscribe, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> For digest mode, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subscription questions: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/starmax%40mail.maclaunch.com/> Using a Mac?
