I have a Starmax 3000/160. When it was given to me, I needed to install an Ethernet network card, and opted for the Asante 'FriendlyNet' one. It's a PCI based card, and I've found it to be terrific. No problems to date - still keeping my fingers crossed.
If it's of any help, the part or model number is: '696 Rev. C'
For more info, check out: http://www.asante.com/products/adapters/696/index.html
This card comes with a CD ROM with software drivers for both PC and Mac OS's.
Finding a card to work with your machine, and OS, shouldn't be too difficult. They're all pretty standard, aside form how they interface with your motherboard. Essentially, ya plug the card in, fire up yourt 'puker, install the software, reboot, choose the the card in the AppleTalk control panel, and you're good to go!
Lastly, Asante is a well regarded brand that makes a lot of add-ons and peripherals for Macs.
Hope this helps
Bill

All these years and i've never gotten into networks. Now i want to network my 5000/250 with a 333mhz imac. I have expierence making cat 5 cables, crossover etc. I need advice on pci card, brand, where to get, etc. In searching web i see most, if not all, pci cards require pc os. Even when they specify pc/mac they require windows or linux OS's.
And, of course i need/plan to get expierence in setup. TIA bluej
