Tried using dpkg -i to reinstall about every possible XF86 file I could
(including fonts). I tried deleting the old XF86Config files....startx
searches for them and then doesn't start. Tried copying XF86Config.new into
etc/X11/ as XF86config....gave me errors and would not start. Tried copying
XF86Config-4 as XF86Config still no luck. There is probably a fix to this in
testing by now. I don't imagine there is an easy way to connect a modem from
the command prompt to do an apt-get update.
I guess I'm destined to do a total reinstall. I looked at the user maillist
at Debian....seems I wasn't the only one with problems. Still, no
suggestions that I haven't already tried.Any last resort brainstorms would
be immensely appreciated before I do the worst tomorrow.
(At least I'll be able to backup some files first).
Thanks,
Glen
