and chance I could use an Apple Cinema Display with ADC-Interface with a Sun Rag 1g? The Sun Ray has DVI output and Dr. Bott offers an DVI-to-ADV adaptor. Basically this should work. I am just wondering how powering on the monitor would work. The Cinema Display has this touch button, that sends a signal to the Mac telling it to give main power to the monitor. I doubt the Sun Ray will do that.
Any idea or experience? We are migrating from Macs to Sun Rays and have a few Cinema Displays that we would like to use with the new Sun Rays.
I don't believe I have ever hooked up a 1g with the ADC to DVI converter, but I have done the ADC->DVI conversion as well as the DVI->ADC conversion on a whole slew of different hardware and never experienced a problem. (I have hooked up the new Cinema Displays with the DVI connector to a 1g with no problems.)
On powering up the monitor, the DVI to ADC converter is just a really expensive power supply for the monitor, and it will do for the monitor whatever the Mac used to do.
I wouldn't be concerned if I were you.
I was concerned but nevertheless gave it a try with two Apple Clineman Displays (17" and 23"). On the 17" the power on button was lid and pressing on it had no effect. The screen remained dark. On the 23" display the power button was flashing, but otherwise I saw the same (nothing). The Sun Ray was powered on. Typing on the keyboard did nothing so it was no screen saver issue.
Any ideas? And again the question, has anybody ever mastered to get an Apple Cinema Display to work with a Sun Ray? ASAIK the Sun Ray 1g has DVI-A output. I would guess that this is the problem. May be DVI-D or whatever is needed for the DVI-ADC-Adaptor to work.
Thanks,
Andreas
