The positional info appears to be correct. I believe that I counted from the wrong
direction -
Heh. Well, the second one of these adapters which I built, I inserted all--*ALL*--the wires in the ATX plug in the mirror image of the way that they should go. I think I used the ATX plug diagram as if I was looking down on the wire end instead of the connector end. Sigh. Now, if I was any good at extracting the pins from those molex housings I could just undo it and start over, but I never have been any good at getting those pins to come back out once they're in there.
thus connecting the power on to ground and telling the atx supply to keep the juice on, as you succinctly explain in your comments. Black on my old PS is ground, as opposed to power on in your document. Is it normal for the same seasonic power supply to have different colored leads?
Yes, it is fairly common. Some of the Seasonic PSs have one long twelve pin connector for J20, instead of two six pin connectors. The wire colors can be almost anything. However, on the main connectors, GND is usually black, 5V is usually red and 12V is usually orange. All other bets are off, and GND isn't necessarily black on the three pin connector as you discovered.
It's these variations that make the positional information so important. No matter what color the wires, they must deliver the correct signals to the correct position, because those connectors on the motherboard are fixed and they're the same on every S900, J700 and C600 motherboard.
