I expect you are already aware that there is a tool (Molex Pin Extractor) that
makes the job of removing the pins nearly painless. I have used them many years
ago when I was in the US Navy. I have on occasion inserted the pin in the wrong
place, but with the tool quickly removed it and put it back in the right place.
Thank you for the information, David. I think I saw one of those in the Digi-Key catalog but did not know how well they worked. That would be nice to have.
However, at a cost of about 25 bucks for each size tool.. you would need to utilize
it a lot to make it worth the price.
Yeah, that is a lot. It's a lot cheaper to just snip the wires, crimp on new pins and start over with a new blank Molex plug, especially because a couple of years ago I got the Santa Claus Molex representative on the phone and he sent me many samples.
It was weird. I was just trying to identify a part number and he asked me how many of a part I anticipated needing. I said about 200. And he replied, "Oh, I can sample you that many." So after my mind finished gyrating...
No, I don't have 200 of the ATX connectors, but he sent me a few of those as well.
