Is there any definitive guide somewhere showing which IDE cards work in OS X without the 8 GB limit? I just picked up a B&W G3 for a good price, and may want to go with an IDE card if my "flash the PC version of the Adaptec 2940UW to the Mac version" project doesn't work out. Although thanks to Jeff here, it looks promising right now!
I'm gonna stuff the B&W with loads of RAM, a G4 upgrade card and my biggest SCSI drive from my S900, if the Adaptec card flashes OK. If not, then I'll go IDE. It will be nice to have USB, Firewire, a 1 ghz G4 and a faster memory bus for OS X!

I've not seen any except for the ones i've written up ;-) Just think ACARD and your good! Acard/Sonnet ATA /66 Acard/100 Acard/SIIG/Miglia/ATA133
Acard/SIIG/Miglia/Sonnet 133 Raid cards
all the above cards are made by Acard and escape the 8gb limit in OSX.
The SIIG version usually has the best price and a 5 year warranty! OWC has for $73.00 USA
There were at least two people who swore the SIIG card did have the 8GB limit. Turns out they had used the OSX utility to format the drive. In most machines OSX won't boot in that case but on their hardware it did but had the 8gb limit. Formating the drive with OS 9.x drive setup fixed the issue.
Sonnet ATA 100/133 & 133 Trio card are all so called Promise chip cards with firmware by FirmTek. These cards all work well but have the 8GB limit on old world Macs. They early on had the advantage of working with nearly all IDE CDRW & DVD RW drives. They still work with a few drives the Acards don't but improved firmware has let the Acards other then the ATA 66 work with most IDE CDRW & DVD drives.
Wait a min the B&W machine is a New World ROM Mac!!! There should be no 8GB limit. I believe the Beige G3 was the last machine made with this limit!
Happy Turkey day. Will S
