Things are much better with the ATA133, but far from perfect. I can burn CD's but only from my hard drive. To copy a CD I have to use DiskCopy to mount an image of the disk, then open the image, then it will copy. I made bootable CD's, and music CD's and copied some pictures to a CD in several sessions.
When I try to copy straight over from either my Mashita CD player or Yamaha CRW2100S, I get that same error message. Toast 5.2.1 has a function to test the speed of the transfer rate, giving high and low bytes per second (?) and then it tells what speed is necessary for the CD to be burned. Even though the transfer rate is well within the parameters, things still blog down with that error message when trying to copy from another CD drive..
I guess I can live with making disk images to my hard drive then burning to CD for now. My brain is telling me that if I had another EIDE CD player on the same cable as a Slave to the Pioneer DVR 106, that the data would be much closer to the destination, rather than having to come from a scsi drive. Does anyone have knowledge about whether there is any validity in this line of thought?
Also, I wasn't aware that the ATA PCI cards had a different footprint than other PCI cards. I finally realized that I had to remove my ATA66 card to be able to plug in the 133. It will only fit into the PCI slot directly under the processor.
Yes, I picked up a back-up power supply way back when, when they were so cheap Small Dog paid me to take it. ;-) It is still in it's unopened shipping container on my closet shelf. I've always been a believer in insurance.
So, I guess the bottom line is that the Pioneer DVR 106 will work with the ATA133 with some limitations. I haven't tested the DV recording functions yet. I don't have any DV media. I got that "ton of bricks" flu virus last Tuesday and am just able to get up today. I got so sick it was like an LSD trip. The fever got so high, I was out of it. There is so much pain involved in this one. I'll probably get some DVR + - media this weekend to continue testing the drive then.
Is there a better burning software than Toast? Is there something for mac in the same class as Toast?
Ok, thanks for your insight and information.
